Tasleema Akhter Calls for Renewed Voter Commitment on National Voters Day
Srinagar, January 25
On National Voters Day, Tasleema Akhter, Human Rights Defender and Chairperson All Terror Victims in Kashmir (ATVK), urged citizens to reaffirm their commitment to the democratic process, stressing that every vote carries equal power and must be protected from undue influence. Her message calls for vigilance, civic responsibility, and shared dedication to using the ballot to guide the nation toward progress and stability.
In a statement marking the observance, Tasleema Akhter highlighted the constitutional guarantee that empowers each voter equally and emphasized the moral duty to preserve the integrity of elections. “Our constitution has given every voter equal power, and the right vote can show our nation the right direction,” she said. “It is our moral responsibility to safeguard our voting system and ensure that no external factor can pollute it.” Her remarks underscore concerns about safeguarding democratic institutions in regions recovering from conflict and trauma.
Tasleema Akhter stressed that protecting the voting process goes beyond law and policy; it is a civic obligation that involves families, community leaders, and civic organizations. She called on citizens to educate one another about voter rights, participate in peaceful and informed voting, and reject attempts at coercion or manipulation. “May on this day we recommit ourselves to the pledge to align the power of our votes to build a developed and powerful India,” she added, framing voter participation as a path to social and economic development.
